This website is dedicated to my husband Dwayne Robertson. Dwayne was 28 when life life ended and began again.

Last revision April 27, 2007

Cancer is a scary six letter word that was often feared and always associated with "Doom". However today there are so many possibilities and options in in the treatment of this deadly disease it is almost endless. Dwayne received most all of his treatments from the University of Virginia (UVA). For more information on UVA hospital visit www.virginia.edu/health.

In April 2002, my husband found out he had stage two testicular cancer, For more information on testicular cancer Click Here

The following month he began his long road of
*Chemo and surgeries that nearly ended his life. . This was so devastating! All that went through my head was how could this happen to a man that was such a loving, devoted husband and father and worked so hard and dreamed of one day becoming a career firefighter? Dwayne was so active up until this point. He volunteered with a local Fire Department and was always out helping in the community. He took every possible class he could take to better himself in the Fire Service. He also loved to teach! He always took his own time and helped others that were eager to learn.

Dwayne spent month upon month in the Cancer Center depressed and wanting to give up at times. I too stayed by his side, occasionally going home 2 1/2 hours away and bringing our children there to see him. That seemed to be the best medicine for him was seeing his family! Dwayne's doctor's had given a very poor prognosis very early into his treatments. If not for prayer and the faith that God's will be done, Dwayne would not be here today! I will interject, that nothing is impossible with prayer!

Through many hours of prayer, Dwayne was fortunate enough to come across a doctor who had aided in the treatment of Lance Armstrong. This doctor had visited UVA for a cancer seminar and heard about Dwayne's unusual case. He changed *Chemo treatments around and then set up an appointment with a doctor in Indianapolis Indiana for Dwayne's last chance at surgery. We soon flew there and Dwayne had his most dangerous surgery yet!

Dwayne had began with a 6" tumor near his spine, that after many *Chemo treatments and surgeries had shrunk. However, he was left with scar tissue and residual tumor near his bowels and kidneys that was inoperable in the beginning. Not looking very good. We expected him to lose his left kidney and may have to wear a colostomy bag the rest of his life. When Dwayne came out of his final surgery, none of this come to pass! Modern day miracles! No one could explain how his surgery come out the way it did! But I could :)! Our faith in God!!

Dwayne has a testimony of faith to offer to others. Always have faith in God! For more information on Dwayne's courageous battle with cancer
